Site management

The Department

The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts manages the Australian Government's interests on Norfolk Island. It has overall responsibility for the management of the Kingston and Arthur's Vale Historic Area (KAVHA), including its Heritage Management Plan, with advice from the KAVHA Advisory Committee.

Kingston and Arthur's Vale Historic Area Advisory Committee

The KAVHA Advisory Committee provides expert and community input to the department to guide management of KAVHA. This includes advice on:

  • best practice techniques to conserve the existing fabric and heritage objects;
  • actions which will protect and present, with authenticity, the rich and interwoven natural and cultural landscape of KAVHA;
  • strategies to achieve effective governance and good management; and
  • opportunities to improve tourism use and the financial sustainability of the site.

The KAVHA Advisory Committee is chaired by the Administrator of Norfolk Island.

Kingston and Arthur's Vale Historic Area Community Advisory Group

The department established the KAVHA Community Advisory Group in January 2019. The group of Norfolk Island community members meets at regular intervals, at least 4 times a year.
